Owners can now respond to reviews on Google Places!

Google has made a significant change to their Google Places service. This is a fantastic leap forward which will hopefully stop “other businesses” placing bad reviews on Google – it gives local businesses a chance to answer back – I know of several people with bad reviews that are so obviously from their competition – nasty deeds!

They are now allowing owners to respond to comments made on their official Places listing.

This would require you to be the person who verified the business/destination on the Google Places service.

  • Starting today, if you’re a verified Google Places business owner, you can publicly respond to reviews written by Google Maps users on the Place Page for your business. Both positive and negative feedback can be good for your business and help it grow (even though it’s sometimes hard to hear). By responding, you can build stronger relationships with existing and prospective customers.

Google officially rolled out its Google Tags product this morning and it’s one of the most significant (and meaningful) changes to the local search advertising landscape in a very long time.

“Tags” are simply yellow “markers” that allow business owners to promote certain aspects of their businesses. For example, a

flower shop could use a tag to showcase a website link to specials or a restaurant could use a tag to feature a link to daily menu specials. Take a look at the results page for a search for “plumber 60618” at the end of this post.

To use Google Tags, a Google Places accuont needs to be created and business information completed and claimed. Once the listing is validated, tags can be activated on the dashboard. Tags are currently available in all 50 U.S. states.

Keep in mind that Tags do not affect the rank of search results. They do however add more information to a listing and help it stand out when it appears in natural search results. The cost of this added exposure? That’s the best part. Tags are budget friendly – for a flat $25 monthly fee

Estate Agents Local Maps Listings on Google

Affordable and sensible ads on Google coming soon to the UK!

We’re wondering how this will work out for Estate Agents as just about everyone will want a Google Places (that’s what Google Local or Maps is now called)

Google Local Plymouth

So if you pay a flat fee to get on the “Google Places” map – just who will be number one or position A and so on?

We reckon – even predict – Google will leave it all up the the websites or blogs that give the user the best experience – the user being the customer looking to buy a house.

This will mean you have to get your website and/or blog properly optimised for the search engines and for the end user to be delivered a “good result”

Here’s an example – Liz and I recently moved back to Plymouth from the United States and wanted to buy an apartment in Manadon Park – could we find anything? No – all we found were referral sites showing homes in areas other than Manadon Park!

We predict these estate agent portals are pretty much doomed and the time for Estate Agents to “get local” with Google is here – pay up – it’s still way, way less than traditional advertising.

Portals will disappear from rankings as Estate Agents learn that “getting it right” from an SEO point of view is so easy!

We predict exact neighbourhoods and addresses will be easily available on Google Places soon – and yes the searches do show up on your smart phone!
