Plymouth Buzz Internet News UK

Plymouth Buzz Launches

Plymouth Buzz is an online community in Plymouth, Devon set up using WordPress and a few interactive commentary plug ins.

David has been meaning to set up an Interactive News Community for his native Plymouth (and South Hams where he was born) since returning to Plymouth after 23 years away in the City of Bath, Norway and the United states

The Plymouth Buzz is not intended to be a “newspaper” as all published news and events are online as soon as the news is released.

We are not the Plymouth Herald but are going to be pretty scathing with any typos or errors they print on or offline – the Coldplay Comedy Act story last week was a brilliant example!

HMS Bounty Plymouth Pirate Days

Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At Worlds End

BOUNTY SETS SAIL FOR PLYMOUTH’S HISTORIC BARBICAN

Landlubbers are being lured onto the waterfront with the promise of booty, buccaneers and HMS Bounty, the star of the Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean II.

The mighty tall ship HMS Bounty has just set sail from America to begin her European tour in the Barbican. She will be arriving on 20 May and will be open to explore from 10am until 4pm on Saturday 21 May and Sunday 22 May.

To celebrate her arrival, Plymouth Waterfront Partnership is working with local Barbican traders to coordinate the pirate-themed family fun weekend with a host of swashbuckling events, including a children’s treasure hunt, a competition for the best dressed pirate and storytelling for little ones.

There will also be smugglers ‘splicing’ demonstrations and cutlass fighting as well as re-enactments displays and talks.

On the Sunday a lookalike of the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow promises to be sauntering through the crowds on the quayside.

Cabinet Member for Planning, Strategic Housing and Economic Development, Councillor Ted Fry said: “This should be a great event for the family and for traders. The Barbican has seen one or two buccaneers in its time, including some of our most famous sons, so the ship’s arrival is a great excuse to have some swashbuckling fun.”

The Bounty is a replica which was built for the 1962 Marlon Brando movie ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’, and has appeared more recently in the Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest, starring Johnny Depp.

Sarah O’Leary, Plymouth Waterfront Partnership Manager said: “This beautiful ship has been seen by millions who’ve enjoyed the Hollywood movie Mutiny On the Bounty and the Pirates of the Caribbean films. We’re delighted that visitors to the historic harbour setting of the Barbican will be able to board her and tread in the footsteps of Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp!”

There will be a fee to go on board the ship. Adults £7 and children under 16 years old £3 and children under five go free.
