Did They Shake Hands

Posted by: David | Comments (0)

I Googled = > did they shake hands just after the kick off of the Chelsea v Manchester City game and the number one result was top and posted on a social media site a second before I searched – amazing!

So Terry and Bridge did not shake hands…DRAMAAAAAA

The very second I search – please do not, whatever your business, forego social media marketing as a great way to push your business forward.

I’m looking for an estate agent and a car dealer in Plymouth that wants to be number one for every listed or car they have for sale

SEO Keyword Tips Plymouth

Posted by: David | Comments (0)

Think outside of the box. Don’t just focus on your main keywords. The first thing to realize when targeting keywords is that it is not all about ranking for the most popular keyword.

The most successful search engine marketing and optimisation campaigns target the most relevant keywords. For example, if you are an estate agent in Plymouth which is a particular area, don’t just optimise your site for “estate agent plymouth”

Optimise your site for dentist, florist, nightclub, solicitors, car sales, etc. You would be amazed how many unique visitors will come through to your site when “outside of the box” thinking occurs.

Google Page Rank

Posted by: David | Comments (0)

Factors that can increase your Google PageRank

Now the Google PageRank algorithm can be very complexed, but yet friendly invention. Here is a list of things that could help boost you Google PageRank, with a rating scale beside it of how important we think it is.

  • Update Pages Frequently 2/10
  • Add Pages Frequently 4/10
  • Good Neighbourhood Directories with high PageRank Levels 7/10
  • Monster Websites 7/10
  • Quality Inbound links 8/10
  • Quality Relevant Links 9/10
  • No Broken Links 5/10
  • Article Submissions (this can increase your PageRank by getting more inbound links)
  • All these put together 10/10

Factors that can decrease your Google PageRank

  • Bad inbound links such as Poker, Porn, Sex, Drugs, or anything to that nature
  • Link spamming
  • Bad Content
  • Lots of broken links
  • SEO Black Hat Techniques

How Google PageRank is Calculated

Okay now we are to the Google PageRank Calculations, this is very simple so pay attention, I learned it over night, not really. The factors about Google PageRank Calculation is that no one knows exactly how it works, but people have discovered over time somewhat how it works, but lets get into an example.

    PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + … + PR(tn)/C(tn))

Above is a Google PageRank algo. that was released in the development of Google algo. Thats right the actualy algo equitation . Which google is not telling us what it does, but that does not matter because the equatation is good enough.

In the equation ‘t1 – tn’ are pages linking to page A, ‘C’ is the number of outbound links that a page has and ‘d’ is a damping factor, usually set to 0.85.

A more simpler way to think of it is:

    a page’s PageRank = 0.15 + 0.85 * (a “share” of the PageRank of every page that links to it)

Share = The linking page’s PageRank is divided by the number of outbound links

A page “votes” an amount of PageRank onto each page that it links to. The amount of PageRank that it has to vote with is a little less than its own PageRank value (its own value * 0.85). This value will be shared equally between all pages

Therefore; it would be better to get a page linked to you that has a PageRank of 5 with 2 outbound links then it would be to have a page linked to you with a PageRank of 8 with 500 outbound links, but don’t get me wrong. It would be better to have both pages linked to you, but if you was to take your choice, think about it.

Now the Google PageRank algorithm is based between a pr of 1 to 10, but many people believe that numbers are set to a algo logarithmic scale. Which there is a very good reason to believe this, but no one knows for sure outside of google, now there has probably been people that have figured it out somewhat, but to be sure, you would of had to write the Google PageRank algorithm your self.

Who invented the Google PageRank Algorithm

Google PageRank was developed at Standford University by Larry Page, and Sergery Brin. This was part of a research project for these two individuals. The project was started in 1995 and then was led to a functional prototype. In 1998, Google was founded.

New Website SEO

Posted by: David | Comments (0)

You wouldn’t start an offline company without considering marketing, yet many people try to start online companies without considering internet marketing and SEO.

I want to start an internet company and document the entire process from an internet marketing perspective. There are plenty of blogs about about starting a company, but very few (if any) that explain how to do it while solely focusing on internet marketing.

I will not include general start up advice. Instead, I will write as if I am the SEO manager whose only job is to do SEO for the company. To be perfectly honest, I do plan on trying to make money from the company but it is not my main concern. I have acquired a lot of internet marketing knowledge over the past year and I feel like if I don’t start applying it soon, I will explode! This is my effort to stop thinking and start doing.

Blogging Outline:

This is not a definitive plan. It is not tested yet and I plan to try these ideas out and blog about the results. I have only started one company in my life and it ended in a scary legal battle. I do not claim to be even a moderately skilled entrepreneur but I do have enough SEO skills to make a notable attempt. Below is my plan:

(Each category will be at least one blog post)

* Formulating the idea
o What marketable problem does the idea solve?
o Who will want to visit your site
o What will they be able to accomplish
o What makes this idea better than the competition
o Identify two degrees of difference
o How will your content build links?
o Who will write your unique content
o How will this website do if it only has 100 users?
* Know the Space before you get into it
o Identify the thought leaders and Linkerati
o Understand the internet neighborhood and the neighboring internet neighborhoods
o Socialize in the space
o Identify user wants and needs
o Find inspiration (aesthetic design, ideas, concepts)
o The art of stealing ideas (It’s fine to steal little pieces from different websites. Give credit where credit is due)
* Keyword Research
o Start early and design with flexibility in mind
o Identify themes
o Decide how this will affect your design
* Setting Goals
o What do you want to rank competitively for
o Is your online marketing plan primarily: Social Media, Paid Search or Natural Search
o Is there a goal to marketing other then selling the product
o 1 hour of marketing for every two hours of coding?
* Plan
* Make a flexible outline
* Think SEO and marketing from the beginning
+ Create an early stage marketing plan
+ Create a high level long term marketing plan
o Do not expect ANY press
o What will you blog about?
+ How many posts per week?
o Milestones
o Keep the big picture in mind
* Get a Domain (doesn’t even have to be the final. you can always 301)
o Base on your keyword research and your intuition
o New Domains
o Domize
o Identify pros and cons of the domain name early
o Have a friend spell it without seeing it. (“Hey Ab Fab, how would you spell jimmyriddle”)
o Buy canonicalzed versions, .com, .org .net. Others not necessary
o Buy typos
o Remember Engines are Registrars, Private registration is useless
o If you need to – buy a currently owned domain…
+ Way the pros and cons of the title (is it worth the price, Google, Delicious, Wikipedia)
+ Use a reputable source
+ Allow 2 months for transfer proceedings
* Work before the work (Start Building Links early)
o Execute your early stage marketing plan
o Make a blog
o Host funny images on your server
o Social media links
o Local Search registration
* Mockups (include SEO, Info Architecture, Siloing, H1, Title Tags)
o Think scaffolding not colors
o Write out your title tags and H1, H2 on your mockups
o Plan your information architecture (3 click theory)
o Entire section on navigation
o How will your homepage spread Link Juice
* Development Design (Hardware and Middleware)
o Pick a CMS
o The Pro and Cons of going custom
o HTML formatting (how does it look? how does it parse?)
o URL structure
o Bot Killers
* Design Design (Frontend)
o User and Search Engine Focused Design
o The 3 Components of Web Design
+ Interface Design
# Clickability
# Banana
# CSS
# Alt tags
+ Aesthetic Design
# UX
# CSS
+ Information Design
# At this point it should already be planned
# Now figure out how to implement into design
# Breadcrumbs?
# Visual Hierarchy of information
* Code
o Start Coding
* SEO Audit
o Get a different SEO to look at your site
o Nofollow
o Title tags
o H1
o SEO Browser
* Marketing
o Stunts
o Blogs
o Community
o Social Media
o Paid (Youtube)
* Tracking/Analytics
o The Infinity Loop (This process never ends)
o SERPS

Google is magic! We’re ranking well, organically (free), all over the place for many differing terms and really dominating over our “big seo company” competition – hey we cost less and love you!

We do SEO properly so no surprise that we rank so well.

It really is nice to be in this position as we are a small business that take care of our customers and never cheat or lie – so some sort of karma is at play here!

We also design our own websites using WordPress and the search engine friendly structure does help!

Local Google Plymouth

Posted by: David | Comments (0)

To YOU as a street based retail provider of consumer goods and services…

If your business is one that sells anything to a local market, then this is your GOLDEN opportunity to gain traction on your competitor(s). Because this evolutionary tech revolution is going about largely dismissed and unbelievably unnoticed by most local businesses, your chance to gain a leg up is NOW!

In other words, if your business is one that traditionally has relied on Yellow Pages advertising as liaison between you and new customers, then YOU had better become a gold miner now.

You have just enough time to…

1. Get listed in all of the relevant directories
2. Claim & verify your listings,
3. Get your customer reviews in order,
4. And secure your positioning on Google Maps…

…before the advent of the new rules, regulations, and entry fees that are sure to follow as the ‘claim jumpers’ start moving in to displace the fat, dumb, and happy (i.e., naive and ignorant) business proprietors who haven’t yet made efforts to protect their otherwise established and smoothly operating enterprises.

Bear in mind this is also a golden opportunity for your competitor to gain ground or, worse yet, leave you in the dust! …unless you sit up, and take action now! And, even if you haven’t the time to personally do your own Local Search SEO, you’ll most certainly have the smarts to select the right professional to do the job!
