…. they’re GREAT! Now we have a way to get all the cheats back. Cheating on Google Maps messes the whole point of Google Maps up so do report anything dodgy.
What with the big push with Android and Maps on your Smart Phone the last thing Google (and us) need are fake listings whilst we’re out and about so help us help Google and snitch on the cheats!
Google hopes this new reporting form will be more accurate as the user doesn’t have to enter in the URL of the location with the error, which the old, but still in use Map Spam Reporting Form still requires.
At this time the reporting option is only available to listings in the United States and some sections of Europe where Community Editing is allowed.
The Google Maps team is typically quick to act on errors in maps, such as an incorrect pin location, but in responding to spam reports they can be frustratingly slow. The lack of response for spam issues is normal for Google as they prefer to make changes to the spam algorithm vs making hand edits of listings when possible. So just because you don’t see them acting on a spam report doesn’t mean they have ignored your submission completely.
